Mike Plotnick joins King & Spalding

International law firm King & Spalding have hired Mike Plotnick to join the firm’s special matters and government investigations practice group.

He will join as a partner in the firm's Washington DC office.

Previously, Plotnick served as chief trial counsel in the division of enforcement and investigations at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

The PCAOB is the primary regulator of public company audit firms along with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

During his 17-year tenure at the PCAOB, Plotnick supervised all division litigation from commencement of disciplinary proceedings through final board resolution.

He also oversaw investigations related to violations of professional standards by auditors of public companies and broker-dealers.

Commenting on his appointment, Plotnick says: “I am looking forward to working with clients and contributing to the growth of the firm’s professional liability defence and SEC enforcement practices.”

Mark Jensen, managing partner of the Washington DC office, says: “As the most experienced PCAOB enforcement litigator in the country on either side, Mike has extensive knowledge of accounting firms, the practice of auditing, the hearing rules and investigative practices of the PCAOB.”
