Sutherland elects five new partners

Five new partners have been elected to the board of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP.

Sutherland is a global law firm founded in 1924. The firm handles clients throughout the US and worldwide. It covers seven major areas of practice including corporate, energy and environmental, financial services, intellectual property, litigation, real estate, and tax.

The company counsels clients with respect to structuring and implementing captive insurance company arrangements, the federal tax consequences of reinsurance transactions, and complex international insurance tax issues.

The elected attorneys are Matt Gatewood, William Pauls, David Reid, Christina Rissler and David Wigley.

In the Washington DC office, Matt Gatewood is a member of Sutherland’s crisis management and complex litigation team which resolves conflicts primarily for energy and transportation clients.

William Pauls is a member of Sutherland’s tax practice group and concentrates on consolidated return issues and other corporate tax matters. He regularly advises clients with respect to the application of the consolidated return regulations and the structuring of corporate reorganisations, stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions.

In the Atlanta office, David Reid advises institutional clients on the formation of joint ventures and funds to invest in asset classes including industrial, multifamily, hospitality, agribusiness and debt, and on the purchase, financing, and sale of those assets. He is based in the Atlanta office.

Christina Rissler represents clients in secured and unsecured commercial lending and structured finance. She advises on senior, second line and subordinated financings.

David Wigley combines his legal experience with years of academic research in chemistry to develop intellectual property strategies that protect both established and fledgling businesses. Dr. Wigley focuses mainly on the IP rights of companies involved in chemical, pharmaceutical, materials-related and polymer technologies.
