Corporate law firm lures captives with new Vermont office

Anderson Kill & Olick, has opened a new office in Burlington, Vermont, in a bid to attract business from captive insurers.

The firm primarily represents policyholders in insurance coverage disputes.

Marshall Gilinsky, a shareholder in the firm’s insurance recovery group, will head the new office, which will focus on insurance recovery, particularly on behalf of the captive insurance firms in disputes with their reinsurance providers.

Gilinsky said: “Anderson Kill has successfully handled many coverage arbitrations on behalf of captives disputing coverage denials from their reinsurance companies.”

“As Vermont is home to a great concentration of talented brokers, managers and actuaries serving captives and their parent companies, we are excited to be on the ground here adding our expertise regarding tax, corporate and reinsurance litigation for captives, as well as for business policyholders generally."??

In addition to his work on behalf of captive insurance companies, Gilinsky's insurance coverage practice is focused on property insurance, commercial general liability insurance, professional errors and omissions insurance and directors' and officers' insurance.

Much of his practice concentrates on obtaining full recoveries for complex property and business interruption insurance claims arising out of prominent catastrophes, such as 9/11, Hurricanes Katrina and Irene, and Superstorm Sandy.

Since Hurricane Irene struck Vermont, Gilinsky has provided pro bono counsel to several Vermonters seeking assistance with flood insurance claims and relocation grants under a hazard mitigation grant programme.

"Gilinsky has been tremendously effective representing financial institutions and other corporate policyholders in insurance coverage disputes," said Robert Horkovich, managing shareholder of Anderson Kill.

"He is an ideal point person in our outreach to the captive insurance industry in Vermont, as he knows the terrain of reinsurance arbitration, captive insurance and of Vermont."??
