G&A launches vertical structure to scale captive insurance practice

Gregory & Appel Insurance (G&A) has announced a strategic evolution of its service model, implementing new vertical practices to deepen expertise in specialist areas such as captive insurance. The Indianapolis-headquartered firm confirmed the move is a deliberate effort to enhance the client experience by creating cross-functional teams of consultants, advisers and service specialists dedicated to specific market segments. This structure is intended to ensure high-performing specialty areas are better positioned to collaborate and scale within a supported framework. G&A explicitly highlighted its alternative risk financing capabilities as a key example, noting its team of captive insurance advisers is “among the leading experts in alternative risk financing in the country”. Andrew Appel, chief executive officer (CEO) of Gregory & Appel, commented that the change allows the firm to deliver more specialised knowledge into every conversation. Appel said: “We’ve always built our client relationships on trust and expertise. This change allows us to continue to bring more specialised knowledge into every conversation, providing client value that is often lost in the insurance brokerage space.” This internal evolution is part of G&A’s multi-year strategic growth plan, aiming to expand its reach across new markets and industries. David Fischer, president of Gregory & Appel, noted the importance of aligning the firm’s structure with client needs. “We’ve structured our teams to align with how our clients operate and think,” Fischer explained. “This is about anticipating what’s ahead and being ready with proactive insight. It gives our people the clarity to focus, collaborate and deliver an unmatched client experience across the board.” Appel added that the firm’s independent ownership allows it to prioritise long-term innovation, stating the new vertical model “positions us to grow with intention and directly benefits our clients and colleagues alike.” The new model also supports the organisation’s internal commitment to professional development by offering team members dynamic career paths and growth opportunities within the vertical teams.
