AI-native third-party administrator (TPA) for commercial insurance, Elysian, has announced the closing of a US$6 million seed round led by Portage, with participation by both American Family Ventures and TenOneTen Ventures. Grace Hanson, a former lawyer and chief claims officer at Allied World, Homesite Insurance, Hiscox, and Hippo Insurance, founded the company in a bid to address the complexity of commercial claims through the utilisation of modern tools. She says Elysian was built by “rethinking claims from the ground up,” adding that it's intended as a “system where AI manages the ‘messy middle’ and adjusters can focus on the human parts”. The company outlines two core offerings: end-to-end claims handling and Dynamic Claim Review (DCR), with proprietary AI built in for working alongside adjusters, with active claims supported by Elysian’s system coverage and liability insights, in conjunction with drafting communications. Ricky Lai, general partner at Portage, believes that Elysian “provides adjusters with the tools to deliver better outcomes,” sharing that Portage is “excited to support the team in their next phase of growth”. Furthermore, TenOneTen partner, Minnie Ingersoll, maintains that delivering digital TPAs “wasn’t possible before modern AI,” and Elysian stood out to them due to it “building systems that reflect how adjusters work”. Managing director at American Family Ventures, Kyle Beatty, adds that: “We strongly believe the full category of claims administration will be transformed by modern software, predictive modelling, and generative AI.”
