Vermont has officially licensed its 1,400th captive insurance company, marking a major milestone in the state’s four-decade journey as a leading global captive domicile. The announcement was made by Vermont Captive via LinkedIn, with the organisation highlighting the achievement as a reflection of the state's “strength, stability, and global reputation”. This latest development underscores Vermont’s continued momentum in attracting and supporting captive formations across a range of sectors. The state remains the largest US domicile and one of the most respected globally, consistently recognised for its strong regulatory framework, deep industry expertise, and forward-thinking approach to innovation in risk financing. Vermont Captive extended its thanks to the Department of Financial Regulation and industry stakeholders, crediting their collaborative efforts with helping to maintain the state’s world-class captive infrastructure. The 1,400th licence follows a strong trend of growth in Vermont’s captive sector. As of the start of 2025, the state was home to over 600 active captives, covering diverse lines of business including healthcare, manufacturing, financial services, and higher education.
