AXA will combine AXA Group and AXA XL ceded reinsurance operations to form a unified Ceded Re team, effective from 1 July. The move aims to streamline strategy execution, reduce duplication, and strengthen AXA’s presence in the global reinsurance market. Guy Van Hecke will continue to lead the new team in his existing roles as group head of Ceded Re and head of Ceded Re for AXA XL. He will report to Nancy Bewlay, chief underwriting officer of AXA Group, and maintain a matrix reporting line to AXA XL CEO Scott Gunter for matters related to AXA XL. According to the firm, the new structure is guided by four strategic pillars: a consistent ceded reinsurance strategy, enhanced group-wide synergies, streamlined broker and reinsurer communication, and optimised governance processes. “This strategic alignment enables us to reduce duplication, enhance market presence, and ensure seamless communication across our global operations,” says Van Hecke. “By bringing together the strengths and expertise of our AXA Group and AXA XL teams, we are creating a more integrated and agile Ceded Re structure that will strengthen our partnerships globally,” he adds. AXA says the changes reflect its broader goal to enhance operational excellence and foster stronger, more effective relationships across the reinsurance market.
