United Educators appoints Richard G. Mills as president and CEO

United Educators Insurance (UE) has named Richard G. Mills as president and CEO. Mills joins the reciprocal risk retention group from Dartmouth College, where he had worked as executive vice president for administration since 2013. He was the chief administrative, business and operating officer overseeing all financial, administrative, human resources and campus services functions. He previously worked as executive dean for administration at Harvard Medical School, where he also served on the underwriting subcommittee of the board of CRICO, Harvard’s captive malpractice insurance company. Other appointments at Harvard included seats on the committee on risk management and the boards of Harvard University Library and Harvard Clinical Research Institute. Before working in education, Mills trained and worked as a litigation attorney in Massachusetts. His appointment at UE follows the resignation of Janice M. Abraham, who served as president and CEO for 25 years. Commenting on the appointment, Mills says: “I’m honored to join the team at UE as CEO and president. I’m committed to building on our history and furthering our mission to enable and protect educational institutions through tailored insurance and risk management solutions.” Morgan R. Olsen, board of subscribers chair at UE, adds: “Rick is the perfect fit for UE. His combination of educational leadership experience, financial acumen and risk management knowledge will help ensure our continued success as a provider of insurance and risk management services to education.”
