W.R. Berkley Corporation, property and casualty insurer, has appointed Jay Weber as president of Berkley Southeast Insurance Group. Weber will succeed Dennis Barger, who has been promoted to chairman of W.R. Berkley Corporation. Weber has more than 30 years of commercial property and casualty insurance experience. He joins the business from insurance group Chubb, where he served as business development leader for North America. Barger has worked as president at Berkley Southeast since its establishment in 2013. As chairman, he will continue to support the Berkley Southeast team through the transition. Commenting on Weber’s appointment, W. Robert Berkley, president and CEO of W.R. Berkley Corporation, says: “We are confident his background, knowledge and expertise will be a great addition to the leadership team as they continue to serve their market.” He adds: “Dennis was instrumental in founding and developing Berkley Southeast over its first decade. We thank him for his outstanding contributions to our organisation and we are extremely grateful that he will be continuing as Berkley Southeast’s chairman.”
