The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions (DIFI) has appointed Barbara Richardson as director. Richardson stepped down from her role as Nevada insurance commissioner in January after a six-year tenure. Prior to taking up the position of insurance commissioner in Nevada, Richardson was New Hampshire Insurance Department’s director of operations and fraud for 12 years. Before that she worked for CNA, Kemper Financial, the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago and Putnam Securities. Richardson is an active member on various committees, task forces and work groups of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, including the Innovation Task Force, the SERFF Board and the AntiFraud Task Force. Commenting on the appointment, DIFI governor Katie Hobbs, says: “I believe the depth of regulatory experience possessed by Barbara will be a tremendous asset to DIFI, industry stakeholders, and most importantly, to Arizona consumers who rely on DIFI for information, education and consumer assistance.”
