Steve Kinion appointed Oklahoma captive director

The Oklahoma Insurance Department has appointed Steve Kinion as captive director. Kinion left the Delaware Insurance Department in September 2022, after a 13-year tenure as captive director. He first worked for the Oklahoma insurance department in 1995 as an assistant general counsel and counsel for the Oklahoma State Board for Property and Casualty Rates. He later became chair of the board of directors for the Oklahoma Health Insurance High Risk Pool. Kinion also serves as attorney and partner at legal practice Zack Stamp, where he has worked for more than 23 years. Commenting on his appointment, Kinion says: “Oklahoma’s strengths as a captive insurance domicile is having regulators who understand captive insurance and its statewide commitment to captive insurance in both the business community and all sectors of state government. I look forward to taking the lead role in furthering Commissioner Mulready’s goal to bring the captive insurance programme to a higher level of excellence.” Glen Mulready, insurance commissioner for the department, adds: Steve is a recognised leader and effective advocate of the captive insurance sector. His ?extensive knowledge and ?experience with captive insurance, insurance law and regulation will? ensure that Oklahoma? stays an extremely competitive jurisdiction. We look forward to welcoming [him] back.”
