Cyril Whitter has been honoured with the Fred Reiss Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bermuda Captive Conference, in recognition of his impact on and contributions to the captive insurance industry. He is the sixth person to receive the award. Whitter received his Diploma in Accountancy at The Bermuda College in 1978 before joining Jardine Pinehurst Management Company, where he was appointed senior vice president in 1991. He remained with the company until 1993, before moving to Independent Management (IML). Whitter was appointed president and CEO of IML in 2009. He has extensive experience in insurance company management, covering companies domiciled in Bermuda, Barbados, The Cayman Islands, and Hong Kong. Covering a variety of insurance classes, Whitter’s more than 40 years’ experience in the industry marks him as a significant figure in the field. Commenting on the award, Whitter says: “I am truly humbled to receive the Fred Reiss Bermuda Captive Conference Lifetime Achievement Award. I have had the honour of serving Bermuda’s captive insurance company and international business sectors for many years. The executives from these sectors have worked tirelessly to ensure that Bermuda continues to be a global leader.
