BMS Canada adds ex-captive CEO as chairman

Insurance and reinsurance broker BMS has appointed Ian Matheson as non-executive chairman of its Canadian operations. BMS Canada provides insurance advisory and consulting services, as well as actuarial and advanced analytics and risk transfer solutions, for property and casualty insurance companies, reinsurance companies and captives. In his new role, Matheson will support president and CEO of BMS Canada, Brian Gomes, and the national leadership team. He will also continue in his role as principal and chief consulting officer at IRGM Global Risk Management Consultants Limited. Matheson previously served at Aon for 15 years, where he held the position of CEO of Aon’s captive services (Canada), as well as chief development officer, chief consulting officer, and director of risk management consultants of Canada Limited. Before this, he served as senior risk officer at both Genstar Corporation and Harrowston Inc, where he began his risk management career. Commenting on the appointment, Gomes says: “Our ongoing focus of specialisation and value delivery strongly position us to capitalise on new opportunities. I am delighted that Ian is joining us as we continue to advance and expand our business. Ian’s experience will be instrumental in furthering our strategic development, in both our current and new sectors.” Matheson adds: “With the Canadian market presenting new opportunities, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Brian and the BMS team. The fact that they have such a refreshing outlook and a strong commitment to their clients makes this new venture an appealing prospect and one I am excited to join.”
