The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) has named the three finalist teams in its essay contest for risk management and insurance college students, sponsored by Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS). The finalists for the “Using Captive Insurance Solutions to Address Coverage Gaps” essay contest are: Katie Strohl and Blake Babec from Butler University (Craft Breweries Association); Connor Thomson and Nicholas Vagnozzi from Saint Joseph’s University (Craft Breweries Association); and Matia Daskalos and Vincent Palmieri from Temple University (American Cannabis Association). CICA revealed the case study topics for the 2021/2022 essay contest in November 2021. The two scenarios focus on developing real-world captive strategies for fictional organisations to provide member value and address coverage gaps for both current and emerging risks. The two-person finalist teams will now work with a mentor from SRS to revise and enhance their essays before a final round of judging determines first, second and third place. After presenting their case studies during an educational session, winners will be announced at the morning general session on 7 March at the upcoming CICA International Conference in Tucson, Arizona. CICA president Dan Towle comments: “We are looking forward to seeing the finalist teams give their presentations at the conference this year! They have done excellent work and we look forward to having them share their ideas in person.” After the conference, student essays will be published in Captive Insurance Times as CICA’s Essay Contest Media Partner. You can read the essays from last year’s finalists, including winners Ashley Martin and Max Bernstein from Saint Joseph’s University, here.
