IRM appoints experienced risk manager as technical director

The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has appointed Clive Thompson as technical director on an interim basis. In this role, Thompson is responsible for working on the institute’s curriculum, particularly financial services and certified operational risk management, as well as introducing a new climate change certificate. Thompson began his career in risk management with setting up and managing captive insurance companies in the Cayman Islands, before moving to a small risk management consultancy and assisting in the establishment of specialist risk financing vehicles in Guernsey. He is the founding chair of the IRM’s innovation special interest group and was elected to the board of the governance and audit committees between 2014 and 2020. He will continue to serve as project director at Willis Towers Watson. Commenting on his appointment, Thompson says: “What a fantastic way to help IRM move to a new phase in its development and contribute to enhancing this profession. “I am looking forward to working on our various qualifications, helping all the interest groups where I can, and generally getting stuck in. Roll on 2022!”
