IQUW appoints experienced head of new Bermuda operation

IQUW has appointed Stephen Young as global head of reinsurance and CEO of IQUW Bermuda. Based in Bermuda, the Lloyd’s underwriting syndicate’s new operation will provide a variety of reinsurance products and associated services to third-party clients, having received approval from the Bermuda Monetary Authority last month. Young previously served as CEO of reinsurance at Sompo International, a specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance. Commenting on his appointment, Young says: “I am thrilled to be joining IQUW to launch our new Bermuda entity, execute on our vision to become a global, multi-line reinsurer and enhance the overall value proposition in this strategically important market.” Kate Hamilton has also been appointed as chief people officer for IQUW and its sister syndicate ERS, having most recently held the role of managing director and head of international human resources at Guy Carpenter. Hamilton adds: “I am looking forward to shaping IQUW’s culture and an agenda that includes the voice of the employee as we continue our efforts to develop a diverse, engaged and highly skilled workforce.” Peter Bilsby, group CEO of ERS, comments: “The launch of our new Bermuda entity continues to deliver on our strategic plan to become a more diverse, data-led property and casualty reinsurer.” “Stephen adds a wealth of experience and expertise that will help us grow our reinsurance portfolio, while Kate’s appointment will help us focus on our people agenda as we enhance our culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.” IQUW recently rebranded from Arcus 1856 following mid-year pre-emption approval and product expansion into data and intelligent automation for underwriting decisions.
