The Association of Mutual Insurers and Insurance Cooperatives in Europe (AMICE) has elected Galit Saar to the AMICE board by AMICE’s annual general meeting of members. Saar is head of group regulatory affairs and senior advisor for the Swedish mutual Länsförsäkringar AB. In addition to her new role on the AMICE board, Saar chairs AMICE’s regulatory affairs working group. She is also a member of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA)’s Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group (IRSG). Meanwhile, Ann Sommer has retired from AMICE board with effect from 1 June. Sommer has been an industry leader in mutual insurance, representing the sector at European and global levels. She has been a board member of AMICE since the association was founded in 2007. Commenting on her new role, Saar says: “I am honoured and delighted to have been elected to the AMICE board. Mutual and cooperative insurance providers have a vitally important role in supporting policyholders and wider European society.” She adds: “I am looking forward to working with my board colleagues and the AMICE community in promoting the sustainable business model of mutual and cooperative insurers.” AMICE president Grzegorz Buczkowski notes: “I welcome Saar’s election to our board by the AMICE membership. Her knowledge and expertise of the regulatory and legislative agenda at national and European level have helped shape many of AMICE’s policy positions.” “On behalf of the entire board, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sommer, one of our founding board members, for all her support and commitment to AMICE. We greatly appreciate Sommer’s enthusiasm and hard work which helped make AMICE what it is today. We wish her all the best in her new endeavours,” Buczkowski concludes. In September 2020, AMICE appointed Oliver Schoeller as director on AMICE’s board for a three-year term.
