BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has appointed Eric Matheny as chief financial officer (CFO) of BMS Re. Matheny will be based in BMS’s Chicago office and report to Pete Chandler, president and CEO of BMS Re. He joins BMS Re from North America at Allianz Global Corporate and Speciality (AGCS), where he was head of operations. Prior to that, Matheny ran his own consultancy business for two years as a financial planner in Chicago. He started his career in finance in General Electric’s financial management programme in 1987, after which he held senior roles at General Electric, including as CFO of the business’ French life insurance company Vie Plus and as CFO of GE Capital’s consumer lending business. As part of the appointment, Steve Korducki, the current US CFO, will take a more active role in client facing activities, particularly around capital advisory, property catastrophe solutions and corporate strategic alliances as vice chairman of BMS Re. Commenting on Matheny’s appointment, Chandler says: “With the addition of Eric Matheny, we are demonstrating our commitment to continued, considerable investment into our business across all areas.” He continues: “Matheny’s broad range of leadership experience in finance and operations roles demonstrates exactly the sort of breadth, agility and versatility required to support the continued expansion of our US reinsurance operations. He is passionate about leadership and places great emphasis on employee engagement, a quality we value deeply here at BMS.” In March, Ryan Saul was appointed as senior vice president at BMS Re.
