Woodruff Sawyer hires Schmidt as healthcare SVP

Woodruff Sawyer has hired Dan Schmidt as senior vice president in the healthcare practice.

Schmidt will be responsible for providing strategic insights as the firm continues to develop and increase its national presence in the healthcare space.

A captive insurance veteran with more than 30 years’ experience in the field, Schmidt has expertise in healthcare and medical group self-insurance, captive formation and management.

He has experience developing both traditional and non-traditional risk financing, risk transfer mechanisms, and combinations of both onshore and offshore captive and risk retention group concepts.

Schmidt was previously senior managing director at Beecher Carlson, prior to which he held roles at Aon and Marsh, and formed one of the earliest Vermont captive insurance companies in 1987.

Schmidt said he looks forward to contributing to a platform that is well-suited for the needs of the evolving healthcare market.

He added: “I am excited to join an organisation with the experience, expertise, and resources to best respond to the unique needs of my clients.”

Woodruff Sawyer CEO Andy Barrengos commented: “Dan Schmidt has built his career around providing deep expertise, outstanding counsel, and fierce advocacy for his clients.”

“He is a well-established leader in the healthcare industry and a consummate professional. We are so pleased Schmidt is joining our team.”
