Theme of 2018 Guernsey Insurance Forum announced

The 2018 Guernsey Insurance Forum will be centred around the theme of ‘Creative Destruction’.

The event, hosted by Guernsey Finance, is now in its third year and takes place in London on Thursday 11 October.

Coined by economist Joseph Schumpeter in the 1940s, the term ‘Creative destruction’ refers the process of the old being replaced by the new, and Guernsey Finance chief executive Dominic Wheatley said in the forum they will apply Schumpeter’s science to the events impacting the market today.

Wheatley commented: “In another year where international tax reform and Brexit threaten to disrupt the status quo, we called on Joseph Schumpeter’s science to put today’s events in context.”

“Fortunately, creative destruction also has positive potential, which encourages us to look for opportunities amongst the threats, such as technical innovations and organisational transformation.”

He added: “I’m sure this very apt theme will prompt some fascinating discussion from all our contributors.”

Karl Hennessy, CEO of Carrier Solutions at Aon, will give the keynote speech, followed by two panel discussions focussing on a range of issues including the impact of Brexit and the effect of technology.
