Guy Carpenter and Company has appointed John Fletcher as chairman of the firm’s Bermuda operations and added James Morris to the Bermuda team as senior vice president and actuarial analyst.
Fletcher will, with immediate effect, take responsibility for the development of new business and will oversee the casualty, specialty and retrocessional teams in the region.
The promotion is part of the long-term succession plan at Guy Carpenter, a global risk and reinsurance specialist and wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh and McLennan.
The promotion will see Fletcher report to Kevin Fisher, president of global specialties at Guy Carpenter.
Fletcher, who has 30 years of reinsurance industry experience, working exclusively at Guy Carpenter, previously held the role of head of the firm’s property retrocessional practice in Bermuda.
Morris joins from Aon Bermuda, where he was senior technical reinsurance analyst in the global re specialty division.
In his new role, he will join the global property specialty team and provide broking and analytical services to clients and markets in Bermuda and on a global level.
Fisher said the promotion of Fletcher was a central part of the firm’s efforts to strengthen its Bermuda presence.
He explained: “Over the last five years, he has led the property retrocession team to great success, and as he takes the helm of our Bermuda office he will look to expand our activities, targeting new areas for growth and seeking to enhance the expansive service capabilities that the division offers.”
“I would also like to welcome James Morris to our Bermuda team, who I am sure will make a very strong contribution to our ongoing success.”
Timothy Gardner, president of North America Operations at Guy Carpenter, added: “We are always looking to bolster that expertise, and with James Morris joining the Bermuda team, we are adding someone with vast experience in structuring reinsurance and retrocession solutions and who has a thorough understanding of the specific characteristics of the Bermuda market.”
“Our Bermuda office provides one of the largest reinsurance broking operations on the island, offering access to a huge range of expert knowledge, as well as a direct link to the full range of Guy Carpenter’s global capabilities.”
