Finnegan appointed to chief operating officer

Michael Finnegan has been appointed chief operating officer of Liberty Mutual Reinsurance, the full service reinsurance arm of Liberty Mutual.

Finnegan takes over from James Hinchley, who was promoted to chief underwriting officer for Liberty Mutual’s Commercial Markets property and casualty business unit, which provides a broad range of commercial insurance products to mid-sized and large companies through brokers and agents.

“Michael is a respected reinsurance veteran who has both the relationships and the experience to continue to diversify and grow our reinsurance business,” notes Christopher L. Peirce, president of Liberty Mutual Commercial Markets. “Liberty Mutual Reinsurance is broadening and growing its book; acting as a lead carrier and bringing the strength of our balance sheet to support the deals we like.”

Prior to joining Liberty Mutual Reinsurance as the head of casualty underwriting, Finnegan served in a variety of key roles at Montpelier Reinsurance, Odyssey Re, Trenwick Re, and Chartwell Re.
