KeyState appoints Ian Podmore as vice president of captive solutions. Podmore is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Podmore joins from Aon, where the role was client leader in Aon Captive and Insurance Management (ACIM) and workstream lead. Before Aon, Podmore spent two and a half years as director of global captive consulting at Hylant. From 2020 to 2023 Podmore was director of captive operations at AF Group, providing fronting services and captive solutions to insurance carriers, managing general agents, reinsurance intermediaries, syndicates and captive managers seeking a fronting facility for turnkey commercial property and casualty programmes. Earlier roles include head of captive underwriting and senior captive consultant at WTW from 2018 to 2020, and senior vice president for business development, underwriting and marketing at Atlas Insurance Management from 2014 to 2018. Podmore was previously vice president for operations and business development at Southern Insurance Underwriters and founded White Hart Consulting. KeyState credits Podmore with more than 40 years of experience across insurance, captive consulting, underwriting and compliance, and says the appointment brings an understanding of the captive landscape and of the needs of organisations evaluating and managing alternative risk strategies. KeyState was founded in 1991 to provide investment subsidiary services to companies and community banks. The firm provides banks and corporations with renewable energy tax credit investment underwriting and management, fixed income portfolio management, and captive insurance design and management. It is headquartered in Las Vegas, with offices in Burlington, Vermont, Wilmington, Delaware, and Denver. The KeyState captive solutions group, led by executive vice president David Guerino, states that it has formed and managed more than 100 captive insurance companies. In March the firm launched a protected cell company platform domiciled in Washington, DC, aimed at companies considering a captive for the first time without the capital required for a standalone single-parent structure.
