Allianz Commercial appoints Morton to lead captive fronting

Allianz Commercial appoints Stephen Morton as global head of captive fronting and captive solutions, with effect from 1 March 2027. Morton succeeds Brian McNamara, who retires at the end of September, leaving five months between the two. The insurer does not say who leads the business in the interim. He is based in Paris and reports to Lara Martiner, global head of alternative risk transfer at Allianz Commercial. Morton joins from AIG, where he was global chief underwriting officer for fronting and multinational business. He previously held a number of senior roles at the insurer, including head of complex multinational solutions, and regional multinational and captive leadership roles based in Bermuda, London and Paris. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, most of it in the multinational and captive area. In the role he continues to expand a captive solutions portfolio that Allianz Commercial says has grown strongly over the past 15 years, delivered through Allianz Group’s international licensing network. That ranges from classic captive fronting for mono-line coverage to multi-year and multi-line solutions drawing on cross-border products and service capabilities from other Allianz business units. Martiner says: "Our captive solutions team has gone from strength to strength in recent years, just as the captive market has grown in parallel, now totalling US$60 billion in premiums across around 6,000 captives globally." Martiner adds: "I also want to thank Brian McNamara for his outstanding steering of this important part of our business over the last seven years, building up our position in the market to where we are now. We wish him well with his retirement."
