Tangram launches member-owned captive for fuel distributors

Tangram Insurance Services launches Forge Energy, a member-owned captive insurance programme designed for fuel and propane distributors. The programme caps members’ indemnity loss exposure at US$350,000 per claim, returns underwriting profit to well-run operators and provides what Tangram describes as transparent premium allocation that the standard market does not offer. Capacity comes from Coaction, with which the managing general agent has had a partnership since 2014. Tangram says fuel and propane distributors operate in one of the most complex risk environments in commercial insurance, citing large mixed fleets, constant pollution exposure and a hardened automobile market that pools disciplined operators together with higher-risk peers. Forge Energy is open to retail and wholesale fuel distributors, heating oil distributors, liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas distributors, and gasoline and diesel distributors, with limited appetite for carriers of refined fuel products. It offers a casualty programme covering general liability and commercial automobile, including pollution. Tangram also supports the programme with cover written outside the captive, including property, excess liability and guaranteed cost workers’ compensation. Krissy Kyjovsky, executive vice president at Tangram, says: "Forge Energy represents a natural evolution of our downstream energy strategy. We've spent years building our expertise in this space, and this captive allows us to better align risk, reward, and long-term performance, giving high-quality operators more control and a sustainable path forward." Tracy Bernard, chief programme officer of Balavant Insurance Group, Tangram’s parent company, says: "Forge Energy reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership with Coaction and our team's expertise in this segment. By pairing disciplined underwriting with consistent, high-quality carrier capacity, we've developed a unique solution designed to provide greater stability for fuel and propane distributors." Tangram is a national managing general agent and programme manager working across industries including energy and fuel distribution, and has operated for more than 25 years.
