Miller launches Miller Malaysia under a Labuan licence, extending the specialist reinsurance broker’s presence in Asia. The initial offering focuses on treaty and facultative reinsurance, with plans to broaden its product capabilities over time. The launch follows the opening of Miller Korea in January 2025 and the acquisition of Japanese broker Lead Insurance Services in 2022. Jo Garnett and Hui Sin Low are already secured in the region, with further hires joining in late 2026. Miller also operates a captives and risk finance consulting practice, led by Steven Rance, which designs, implements and manages captive reinsurance programmes. The practice covers feasibility studies, strategic reviews, optimisation, captive retro, disposal and closure, and its team has experience of restructuring existing vehicles, acquiring and disposing of captive vehicles, and establishing multi-cell captive vehicles covering the risk requirements of entire industries. It has also established and managed two government-backed captive vehicles addressing more than £1 billion of mortgage assets. The broker does not say whether the Malaysian business will serve captive clients from Labuan, which is one of Asia’s established captive domiciles. Ron Whyte, head of Asia at Miller, says: "Malaysia is a significant Asian market and I am incredibly excited to be reestablishing the Miller brand in the region. We continue to be one of the fastest-growing players in Asia, building on milestones such as the launch of Miller Korea and our diversification into Japanese non-marine lines. With Miller Malaysia, we are continuing to demonstrate real momentum as we extend the scope and reach of our market-leading specialist capabilities." Miller operates internationally and at Lloyd’s, with more than 1,000 staff across its UK and international operations, and is headquartered in London.
