WTW appoints Owens to lead Irish captive business

Willis, a WTW business, Gerard Owens as head of captive and insurance management solutions for Ireland, effective 1 November. Owens succeeds Trevor Madden, who takes up the equivalent role in Singapore, leading the broker’s captive and insurance management solutions business across Asia Pacific from the same date. He reports to Elizabeth Carbonaro, managing director of captive and insurance management solutions for Europe and Great Britain. Owens brings more than 25 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, covering captive management, financial and regulatory reporting, risk management, compliance and business development. He has led teams responsible for the management and oversight of captive insurers and reinsurers operating in Ireland, and has worked with organisations on the establishment, expansion and optimisation of captive insurance programmes. He has held a number of senior positions at Willis since 2017, sits on the board of the broker’s Irish captive practice and holds other regulated directorships. Peter Carter, global head of captive and insurance management solutions at Willis, says: "Ireland is an integral part of the Willis captive practice in Western Europe and enjoys a strong presence in the domicile primarily due to the expert team that we have been able to develop over the years." Carter adds: "Gerard has formed a central part of the management team in Dublin for 17 years and brings with him full knowledge of the business and of our clients such that it will allow a seamless leadership transition. His extensive experience across captive operations, financial and regulatory engagement and risk management and compliance makes him ideally positioned to lead our Captive and Insurance Management Solutions business in Ireland."
