Oliver Wyman appoints Alter partner in actuarial life practice

Oliver Wyman appoints Benjamin L. Alter as a partner in its actuarial life practice, based in New York. Alter advises life insurers, reinsurers and their investors on the capital, actuarial and strategic finance decisions that shape balance sheet performance. His expertise spans offshore reinsurance and captive structuring, asset liability management, capital optimisation, and actuarial and financial due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. He joins from EY, where he was a managing director for almost two years, leading strategic finance advisory engagements for life insurers and serving as actuarial lead on insurance mergers and acquisitions. Alter was chief actuary at Mount Logan Capital before that, and spent more than three years at Prudential Financial, serving as chief actuary of Gibraltar Re and Lotus Re in Hamilton, Bermuda, and as chief actuary of PFI Mega Life in Hong Kong. He was head of pricing for leisure travel in international accident and health at Chubb in London, and spent four years at AIG in Singapore and New York. He began his career on Prudential Financial’s actuarial leadership development programme in 2011. Alter says: "I have spent my career leading insurers and reinsurers from within, sitting on your side of the table when working with advisers. That's the perspective I bring to every client relationship." Alter is a CFA charterholder, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.
