Generali GC&C and Descartes renew parametric partnership

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) and Descartes Underwriting renew their strategic partnership in parametric insurance. The agreement builds on a collaboration begun in 2019 and sets a long-term framework for the two firms in the global parametric market. It combines GC&C’s corporate insurance expertise, portfolio management capabilities, market access and local knowledge with Descartes’ risk modelling, climate analytics, technology and data science capabilities. The partners use real-time data, satellite imagery and artificial intelligence models to deliver parametric solutions that complement traditional insurance programmes and existing risk transfer arrangements. Pre-agreed triggers enable faster access to funds following an event. GC&C provides insurance solutions to medium and large companies in more than 180 countries and acts as a centre of excellence for parametric insurance within Generali. Parametric solutions represent one of the three pillars of its alternative risk transfer offering, alongside captive solutions and capital solutions. Its total earned premiums were €3.1 billion in 2025. Descartes is a corporate insurance and reinsurance specialist covering climate and emerging risks, working through corporate brokers. It has provided more than US$15 billion of capacity to clients and serves clients in more than 60 countries from over 20 offices. The company comprises Descartes Insurance, a full-stack insurer operating in several European countries, and Descartes Underwriting, a managing general agent backed by a panel of carriers. Christian Kanu, chief executive officer of Generali Global Corporate & Commercial, says: "The strengthening of our partnership with Descartes supports our long-term strategy and reflects the value we have created together over the years. By combining GC&C's underwriting expertise, capacity and global reach with Descartes' specialised technology, data and risk assessment capabilities, we have built a distinctive proposition that complements traditional insurance programmes and provides clients with greater transparency and faster access to funds." Tanguy Touffut, co-founder and chief executive officer of Descartes, says: "Over the past seven years, we have built a thriving partnership that has established Descartes as a global leader in parametric (re)insurance. As corporate and public entities face unprecedented climate and emerging risks, our mission to provide reliable, rapid financial resilience has never been more vital."
