ICEYE partners with The Water Institute on predictive flood intelligence

ICEYE partners with The Water Institute, bringing the institute’s predictive flood intelligence platform, FloodID, and its core development team to the satellite operator. The partnership expands ICEYE’s flood intelligence capabilities for governments, re/insurers and emergency management organisations in the US. FloodID combines physics-based hydrologic modelling, physics-guided artificial intelligence, Earth observation data and cloud computing to anticipate how flood events are likely to evolve from onset through recession. ICEYE’s existing flood products span the event lifecycle. Its flood early warning solution provides up to 96 hours of advance notice by combining weather forecasts, basin susceptibility data and historical Earth observation. During active events its synthetic aperture radar constellation delivers intelligence through cloud cover, rain and darkness, supporting products that give observed flood extent, water depth and building-level damage intelligence within hours. Pairing the two produces a forecast that updates continually as new satellite data arrives during an event, rather than relying on a single forecast set at the outset. Hugh J. Roberts joins ICEYE as head of predictive intelligence, having led FloodID at The Water Institute. He leads go-to-market efforts for predictive intelligence within ICEYE’s solutions organisation. FloodID was developed originally to support emergency managers in Louisiana and is built on Amazon Web Services with support from an Amazon grant. Will Panchaud, senior director of product, solutions at ICEYE, says: "FloodID adds another important dimension to that capability by strengthening our predictive intelligence. Together, we're giving customers an even richer understanding of what may happen next while continuing to deliver the observed flood intelligence they've come to rely on."
