Honigman hires Ruisi for captive insurance practice

Honigman adds Stephen Ruisi to its captive insurance practice group. Ruisi comes to law after more than two decades in insurance. He spent 20 years at Marsh, beginning as a senior casualty broker advising Fortune 500 clients on programme structures from guaranteed cost through to loss-sensitive arrangements with large deductibles and self-insured retentions, including fronted programmes using captives and reinsurance. He moved into healthcare placement later in his time at the broker, handling primary and excess malpractice cover for hospitals, physician groups and long-term care facilities, and finished as senior vice president in the client executive practice. Ruisi left Marsh in 2020 for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, where he spent two years as vice president for healthcare professional liability, before qualifying as a lawyer. He joins Honigman from Sheehan Phinney Bass & Green, where he spent 11 months as a real estate and corporate associate. He is admitted to practise in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and before the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Honigman says: "Before becoming an attorney, Steve spent 20 years in the insurance industry, building deep experience in both the brokerage and captive insurance sectors. His firsthand industry perspective brings valuable insight to clients navigating complex captive insurance matters." Julie Robertson, captive insurance attorney at Honigman, says: "So happy to welcome Steve, who many of you may know from his prior work in the captive industry, to our Honigman team."
