Gallagher Re launches a Digital Risk Practice, bringing together specialist expertise in AI liability, data centres, cyber and digital risk engineering to help insurers and reinsurers understand, quantify and manage evolving technology-related risks. The practice expands the reinsurance broking and advisory firm’s cyber capabilities and creates a dedicated platform addressing the impact of AI, digital dependency and technology-driven accumulation risk across insurance portfolios. Ian Newman is appointed global head of digital risk, holding the position alongside the existing role of global head of cyber. Freddie Scarratt is appointed AI liability lead in addition to the existing role of global deputy head of InsurTech, while Luca Drane is appointed data centers lead. Gallagher Re says that as businesses become increasingly reliant on shared digital infrastructure, a single technology failure can trigger losses across multiple insureds, portfolios and lines of business. The practice is designed to help clients translate complex technology exposures into actionable underwriting, accumulation and capital insights, supporting more informed risk and reinsurance decisions. Commenting on the launch, Newman says: “Clients and markets are increasingly seeking guidance on the implications of AI and digital dependency, not only within cyber but across a wide range of business lines. “By bringing our expertise together under a dedicated Digital Risk Practice, we can provide a single source of insight to help clients understand emerging exposures, manage accumulation, and identify effective reinsurance solutions.” The practice will operate across Gallagher Re’s Global Products & Practices platform, reflecting the growing influence of digital risk on property, casualty and other specialty classes. Newman adds: “Our goal is to give clients a clearer view of where digital exposure exists, how it accumulates, and how reinsurance can support growth and resilience.”
