Lloyds Banking Group names Daniel Sims to lead newly created captive insurance team

Lloyds Banking Group appoints Daniel Sims as director, head of captive insurance, joining the bank's newly created captive insurance team. Sims arrives with more than 25 years of relationship management and sales leadership experience across Barclays and RBS, with a strong track record of building and scaling client relationships. Most recently, he established Barclays' captive insurance platform in London, developing it from the ground up and building a high-quality global network across the sector. Sims spent close to nine years at Barclays Investment Bank. As relationship director for captive insurance from September 2021, he was responsible for establishing and launching the bank's London captives platform and managing relationships with captive insurers in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and the US. Before that, from September 2017, he served as relationship director for US inbound international corporates, managing relationships with US-headquartered global businesses. His earlier career spanned a range of relationship and leadership roles at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, including European business development manager and senior international corporate manager. He also led international premier banking for resident non-domicile clients, having spent the first decade of his career at RBS. Richard Askey, managing director, insurance at Lloyds Banking Group, welcomes the appointment. "He brings over 25 years' experience across Barclays and RBS, with a strong track record of building and scaling client relationships," Askey says. "A proven relationship-builder with a consistent record of delivering growth, this is a fantastic hire for us as we continue to strengthen our capabilities in this space." Commenting on his appointment, Sims says he is "very excited to be joining Lloyds Banking Group" as head of captive insurance, adding that he is looking forward to working with the team on what comes next.
