Michael Atkinson joins Davies as a principal in its actuarial consulting practice, based in Houston, Texas. Atkinson moves to Davies from Oliver Wyman, where he held the principal role and had returned after a previous long tenure with the firm. He has more than 14 years of actuarial consulting experience and has provided services to public entities, insurance and reinsurance carriers, and self-insured organisations. His specialist areas include estimates of unpaid loss and allocated loss adjustment expense (ALAE) across property and casualty exposures, including workers' compensation, auto liability, general liability, products liability and professional liability. He also works on estimates of required collateral for large-deductible casualty programmes, forecasts of future loss and ALAE, and the allocation of loss and ALAE to business units. Atkinson's earlier career also includes a director role at KPMG US in Houston, where he advised insurance, reinsurance and self-insured clients on actuarial assignments and risk financing. Davies operates as a specialist professional services and technology business serving the global insurance market, with services spanning claims, underwriting, distribution, regulation, customer experience, human capital, digital transformation and change management. Its North American team supports insurers, carriers, public entities and private self-insured employers across the risk lifecycle, with more than 3,000 team members and over 100 offices worldwide. Frank Huang, CEO of Insurance Solutions, North America at Davies, welcomed the appointment, citing his earlier work with Atkinson during their shared time at Oliver Wyman Actuarial. He says he looks forward to working alongside Atkinson to support the firm's carrier, self-insured and captive clients.
