Pinion Insurance appoints Jones as group CFO

Pinion Insurance (Pinion), a newly formed technology-enabled specialty insurer, has appointed Chris Jones as group chief financial officer, effective immediately. Based in London, Jones joins the founding leadership team alongside Neil McConachie, group CEO, Philip Vandoninck, group chief underwriting officer, and Laura Baird, group chief technology officer. He will also serve as a member of the executive committee. Jones brings more than 30 years of experience across finance and accountancy in the insurance sector to the role. Neil McConachie, co-founder and group CEO of Pinion, says: “Chris is an excellent addition to the Pinion founding management team. He has enjoyed a sterling career in the insurance industry, and his expertise will be invaluable as we build out the business.” Jones adds: “I am excited to join such an innovative business as Pinion, built using modern technology for operational efficiency. With strong financial backing in place, I’m looking forward to working with Neil, Philip and Laura.” Pinion is a specialty insurance platform providing capacity for managing general agents (MGAs) across the US, UK and Europe. The carrier is built on the foundations of Pinion Risk Consulting Limited, an established data and analytics specialist. The firm utilises a fully integrated and proprietary technology platform designed to provide MGAs with long-term quality capacity and real-time visibility into underwriting performance. Pinion launched with a US$180 million capital commitment from Barings and expects to obtain nationwide excess and surplus (E&S) licences in the US through the acquisition of a shell company, with a target to begin binding business in the second quarter of 2026.
