Piette promoted to manager captives at HDI Global SE

HDI Global SE promotes Gerrie Piette to the role of manager captives. In his new position, Piette leads the firm’s efforts in advancing innovative solutions within the captives and risk finance landscape. Piette previously served as senior underwriter casualty and account manager captives for the company’s Belgian branch. With more than 13 years of experience at the firm, Piette originally joined HDI-Gerling, which later rebranded as HDI Global SE, in June 2009 as an underwriter in the liability department. His career also includes a tenure as an account assistant at Lombard International Assurance S.A. and as a liability underwriter at AG Insurance Belgium. Commenting on his promotion, Piette says: “I’m excited to step into this new role and I look forward to connect if you’re exploring innovative approaches in the space of captives or risk finance solutions.” He highlights the growing strategic importance of the sector, adding: “In 2026, it’s expected for captives to continue expanding their role as essential strategic risk-financing tools.” According to Piette, businesses are increasingly turning to captive vehicles to address gaps in the commercial insurance market, specifically regarding cyber, property and emerging risks. He also notes a rising interest in structured reinsurance, with multi-year stop-loss and hybrid solutions helping captives to manage volatility and protect capital. Furthermore, Piette points out that captives are increasingly adopting parametric covers and taking on non-traditional risks, such as supply chain disruption and emerging climate exposures. “Together, these trends position captives as flexible and forward-looking vehicles that balance organisational risk appetite while strengthening financial resilience,” he says. Headquartered in Hannover, Germany, HDI Global SE is the flagship company of the corporate and specialty division of the Talanx Group. The insurer operates through 27 of its own entities worldwide and employs more than 5,000 people. The firm leads approximately 5,300 international programmes for multinational clients across more than 175 countries through its branch offices, subsidiaries and network partners.
