Andersen to lead AIG as president and CEO-elect

American International Group (AIG) appoints insurance industry veteran Eric Andersen as president and CEO-elect, effective 16 February 2026. The appointment is part of a comprehensive multi-year succession planning process conducted by the AIG board of directors to identify a highly qualified leader to continue driving performance over the long term. Andersen joins the leadership team from Aon, where he spent nearly 30 years in various senior leadership positions, most recently serving as president. In his new role at AIG, he reports to Peter Zaffino, the current chairman and CEO. The transition plan sees Zaffino move to the role of executive chair of the AIG board of directors. He intends to retire as CEO by mid-year 2026 following the company's transformation and strategic repositioning as a leading global property and casualty insurer. Andersen is expected to assume the role of CEO and join the board of directors after 1 June 2026, following an orderly transition period. Zaffino says: “I am incredibly proud of our colleagues and the extraordinary progress we have delivered during my tenure to make AIG a top industry performer. With significant support from the AIG Board of Directors, we have returned AIG to vastly improved profitability, significantly strengthened our balance sheet, and built tremendous financial flexibility. These efforts have allowed us to successfully pursue the strategic repositioning of AIG as a leading global property and casualty insurer.” During his career at Aon, Andersen held several high-level roles, including CEO of Aon Benfield and CEO of Aon Risk Solutions. His experience covers the global insurance value chain, including brokerage, underwriting, and risk management. Beyond his corporate experience, Andersen holds an MBA in finance from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Colgate University, where he serves on the board of trustees. He is also a member of the board of directors for Covenant House New Jersey and has been actively involved with the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI) and the Insurance Development Forum (IDF). Commenting on the appointment, Zaffino adds: “Eric is a deeply respected and accomplished leader in the global insurance industry with a proven track record of driving growth and innovation. His extensive experience across the insurance value chain, including brokerage, underwriting, and risk management, makes him the ideal leader to guide AIG into its next chapter.”
