Augment Risk expands Latin American platform with weather parametric capabilities

Reinsurance and risk capital solutions broker Augment Risk expands its Latin American platform with the addition of specialist weather parametric and structured weather risk transfer capabilities. Based in Miami, the team focuses on designing weather-based solutions for energy producers, utilities, and large industrial clients. The expansion utilises proprietary analytics and modelling to create data-driven triggers and defined payout mechanisms. In support of the initiative, Augment Risk appoints Sergio Isaza and Andres Cardona as weather risk consultants to its Latin American platform. Both consultants bring experience in energy markets, risk management, and finance, having previously advised infrastructure clients in the region on weather-related risk structuring. The development reflects the Augment Risk capital-first philosophy, which aims to structure risk solutions around the financial and liquidity needs of clients rather than relying on standardised indemnity frameworks. Alejandro Solorzano, associate partner, parametric at Augment Risk, says: “As climate variability continues to drive earnings volatility across Latin America, Augment Risk intends to be a long-term partner for clients seeking disciplined, purpose-built weather risk solutions.” Solorzano adds: “Expanding into this space is a natural extension of our capital-first philosophy, applying structured risk transfer and capital markets thinking to real operational weather exposures, particularly for industries that require certainty, speed, and clarity without ambiguity.” The expansion addresses material exposures for weather-sensitive industries in Latin America, where traditional insurance solutions often struggle to respond to high-frequency, non-catastrophic weather volatility.
