Generali launches software factory to accelerate digital transformation

Generali launches Generali Core Tech, a new software factory designed to advance the group’s technological transformation and scale its shared insurance platforms. The initiative aligns with the Generali strategic plan, ‘Lifetime Partner 27: Driving Excellence’, which includes a €1.2 to 1.3 billion investment in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience. Generali Core Tech focuses on the management and development of ‘Insurance in a Box’ (IIAB), a shared core insurance platform for both life and property and casualty (P&C) business. The IIAB platform is currently live in Spain and Switzerland, with expansion underway in Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia. The project initially covers approximately 15 million policies across the group. By centralising these operations, the software factory aims to deliver economies of scale and improve technological agility across the insurance business. The new entity acts as a centre of excellence, building a team of around 150 experts. These teams utilise advanced development methodologies and generative AI-powered tools to support local business units. The software factory also leverages the platform of RGI, a European insurance software provider. David Cis, Generali group chief operating officer, says: “The launch of Generali Core Tech represents a significant milestone in our journey towards becoming a fully digital and data-driven organisation. By centralising our software development capabilities, we will be able to accelerate the delivery of innovative solutions, ensure leadership in key skills development, and support local teams in new systems development, and strengthen the use of AI/GEN AI in radically changing software development processes.” Generali is one of the world's largest integrated insurance and asset management groups, serving 71 million customers across more than 50 countries. The group recorded a total premium income of €95.2 billion in 2024.
