AXA partners with Planet to enhance catastrophe monitoring

AXA Digital Commercial Platform (AXA DCP) partners with Planet to monitor, track and respond to natural catastrophes using high-frequency satellite data. The partnership enables AXA DCP, an AI-powered risk management platform, to integrate near-real-time environmental intelligence into its suite of solutions. By leveraging Planet’s commercial Earth-imaging constellation, the platform can capture multi-spectral images of the entire land surface nearly every day. The agreement follows AXA’s recent collaboration with ICEYE, a manufacturer of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) microsatellites, to track floods, hurricanes and wildfires. AXA says the integration of this data helps clients manage both man-made and natural disasters, including extreme weather events. For the captive insurance market, the integration of high-resolution imagery into the AXA DCP portal provides additional transparency for global programmes. The portal already offers interactive dashboards for policy and captive premium information, and the addition of satellite data facilitates more proactive loss prevention and smarter claims monitoring. Pierre du Rostu, CEO of AXA DCP, says: “Natural disasters are now an ever-present danger, and the climate crisis is making them worse. Planet’s data and insights will greatly enhance our ability to do this. We are pleased to be able to bring together that data and our in-house expertise to support our clients and the rest of society. This is the future of insurance.” According to Planet CEO and co-founder Will Marshall, the partnership provides objective data needed to navigate environmental volatility. He says: “This will integrate satellite data into AXA’s digital platform to enable smarter claims monitoring. With extreme weather events occurring with ever greater scale and frequency, real-time information is critical to intelligently respond.”
