Oppenheimer promotes Meskunas to managing director of investments

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. promotes Jack Meskunas to managing director of investments. In his new role, Meskunas continues to manage portfolios for offshore banks, insurance companies and reinsurance firms, specialising in hedge funds, fixed-income investments and separately managed accounts. A 33-year veteran of the industry, Meskunas has spent more than 13 years at Oppenheimer, where he serves as a leading asset management advisor for both onshore and offshore captive domiciles. His promotion follows his recent appointment to the board of directors for the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) in November 2024. Speaking with Captive Insurance Times, Meskunas reflects on the evolving nature of the sector: “The captive insurance space has always felt like a natural fit for me, reflecting a spirit of mutual learning and teaching between myself as a financial adviser and captive chief investment officers and managers sharing their investment goals and strategies”. He emphasises the critical need for captives to remain agile in a fluctuating rate environment. Speaking with Captive Insurance Times, Meskunas adds: “Captives must balance regulatory liquidity needs with the pressure to maximise investment returns. Before looking for yield or returns, it is crucial to meet the requirements and expectations of your regulator. Being in compliance with your captive investment programme is the first and most important step”. Prior to joining Oppenheimer in 2012, Meskunas held senior leadership positions at bulge-bracket firms including Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and UBS. He holds an MBA with honours from Boston University and a double major in chemistry and economics from Cornell University. To read the full interview with Jack Meskunas, click here.
