ATA launches US$750 million facility for AI infrastructure

Advanced Technology Assurance Limited (ATA) has launched a first-of-its-kind insurance facility with up to US$750 million in initial capacity to underwrite the global AI infrastructure build-out. The market for AI infrastructure is forecast to attract nearly US$7 trillion in investment by 2030. The ATA Global Data Centre & AI Infrastructure Insurance facility is backed by a consortium of more than 10 (re)insurers and Lloyd’s syndicates, including Arch Insurance International, Munich Re Specialty and SCOR. The facility introduces an integrated policy that combines multiple lines of insurance, including property, computer hardware, cargo and transit, cyber and technology E&O, environmental liability and terror, under a single solution. This approach aims to address coverage gaps and potential clashes between insurers often found in standalone policies. Michael Coles, chairman of ATA, says: “We’re creating an ecosystem approach. We’ve brought the capacity and expertise of the world’s top (re)insurers to one table to create one specialised policy that aggregates limits across traditional and new coverages.” Coles adds that the firm will work with its (re)insurer partners to build out the team, line sizes and risk engineering required for multi-billion dollar AI projects. Alistair Blundy, CEO and lead underwriter at ATA, notes: “Our new ATA policy is built for the entire AI sector, from the investors and lenders to the tenants, chip integrators, and data centre operators. We wanted to be an insurance broker’s first call for all AI stakeholders, providing them with a clear, lead-line solution.” Rachel Turk, chief of market performance at Lloyd’s, comments: “I’m delighted to see Lloyd’s at the forefront of supporting this groundbreaking facility. It’s a powerful example of how syndication at Lloyd’s brings world-class capacity together, making it easier to build meaningful line sizes and deliver innovative solutions that address complex needs.” ATA is a managing general underwriter established to deliver insurance for advanced technologies. It commenced operations in October 2023 with investment and capacity from Convex Group.
