Advanced Technology Assurance (ATA) announces the appointment of Loren Nickel and Brian Warren to its board of directors. The move coincides with the managing general underwriter (MGU) opening its underwriting desk at Box 355A in Lloyd’s. The appointments are designed to support ATA’s growth as a property and casualty (P&C) insurance partner for businesses that develop or manufacture advanced technologies. Both Nickel and Warren bring significant leadership experience from two of the world's largest captive insurance programmes. Nickel currently serves as director of business risk and insurance at Google and CEO of Imi Assurance, Alphabet’s captive insurance company. During his tenure at Google, he has formed and led three separate insurance captives with combined assets under management exceeding US$1.5 billion. He is a qualified actuary and a former chairman of the M200 Organisation. Warren joins the board following a 25-year career at Microsoft, where he most recently served as director of risk management. In this role, he led global risk financing and managed the operation of Microsoft’s captive insurance entities, which facilitate major elements of employee benefits globally. Commenting on the appointments, Michael Coles, chairman of ATA, says: “Loren and Brian know what ATA’s customers want and need. They’ll help us develop preeminent insurance products and facilities.” Nickel adds: “ATA understands the needs of risk managers and CFOs at the world’s most innovative companies. Sounds simple, but surprisingly rare in a 300-year-old insurance industry.” Parallel to the board additions, ATA is now serving brokers in person five days a week at its Lloyd’s desk. “We are strong believers in in-person trading,” notes Alistair Blundy, CEO of ATA. “As risks evolve, face-to-face underwriting delivers clarity, trust, and better outcomes. It is the foundation on which Lloyd’s has been successful for centuries, and the same face-to-face approach is at the heart of ATA’s philosophy.” Warren concludes: “Loren and I are going to help build ATA to be the insurance partner we wish we had. Brokers will be putting their clients in good hands with ATA.”
