Lockton plans new global headquarters in Kansas

Lockton announces plans for a new global headquarters in Leawood, Kansas, marking a transformative move to support its next chapter of growth. The privately held insurance brokerage expects to begin construction on the 34-acre development in 2026, with a projected move-in date in early 2030. The centerpiece of the site will be a 12-storey, 444,000 square-foot office building led by developer VanTrust Real Estate. Plans also include a future phased expansion of an additional eight-storey, 258,000 square-foot building. Ron Lockton, chairman and CEO of Lockton, says: “As we look to the future, our growth is not slowing down. To keep pace, we need a headquarters that supports our current growth and our plans for the future. One that meets all our needs – in a premier work environment that enables us to service our clients, develop and attract great talent, and support our Associates in the best way possible”. The firm currently serves more than 65,000 clients and operates over 150 offices across 43 countries, having recently expanded into Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and India. The new campus will integrate residential and commercial spaces, including a hotel, two multifamily buildings, a childcare centre, and retail and restaurant space. Lockton adds: “This move reflects our commitment to excellence—every day, we put growth, service, and culture before margin, and we continue to reinvest in the business. We are committed to maximising the competitive advantages our private ownership affords us”. For the captive insurance industry, Lockton operates as a major specialist, managing more than 150 single-parent captives across 20 jurisdictions. The firm's captive consulting team oversees approximately US$8 billion in captive assets, providing services including feasibility studies, domicile management, and reinsurance design. The headquarters has relocated five times since the firm was founded by Jack Lockton in 1966. The 1,500 local associates in Kansas City currently occupy a 10-storey office building in the Country Club Plaza district, where they have been located since 2000.
