Gallagher Re launches captives risk transfer team

Gallagher Re, the global reinsurance broker and advisory business, has launched a specialised captives risk transfer team within its global facultative practice. The new unit is designed to provide tailored facultative and structured reinsurance solutions for single-parent captives of various sizes and complexities. Utilising the firm’s analytics, the team will offer insights to optimise risk transfer strategies and support growth across North American and international markets. The team is led by Martin Hughes, who assumes the role of executive vice president, captives, effective 1 January 2026. Hughes joins from Artex, where he led the specialty risk transfer division for five years, delivering reinsurance solutions to North American captive clients in partnership with Gallagher Re. Joshua Cryer also joins the team as divisional director, captives. Cryer previously held senior roles at WTW, Virgin Atlantic and THG plc. Pablo Muñoz, CEO of facultative at Gallagher Re, says: “The new team will connect captive owners with both traditional and alternative sources of global capital, unlocking opportunities beyond the reach of most captives.” He adds: “Martin and Josh bring deep expertise in risk management, insurance strategy, and captive solutions. They will work closely with colleagues across Gallagher Re Treaty, Artex, GGB Retail, and GGB Specialty to deliver innovative solutions for our clients.”
