John Ferrara joins Sompo International as Chief Reserving Actuary, Reinsurance, leading the firm’s global reserving team. Ferrara makes the announcement via social media, stating: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Reserving Actuary, Reinsurance at Sompo International!” In his new role based in New York, Ferrara is responsible for leading the reinsurance reserving team on a worldwide basis. He joins Sompo International from Crowe LLP, where he served as a Managing Director in the Actuarial Practice from November 2022 to December 2025. During his time at Crowe, he established and led the firm’s actuarial practice, with projects including captive feasibility and captive actuarial studies, risk transfer and transfer pricing studies, and reserve studies. This work focused on business in the Cayman Islands, the US, and the UAE. Ferrara brings over 33 years of actuarial experience spanning consulting, insurance, and reinsurance. His extensive background includes working with captives, E&S lines of insurance, traditional insurance lines, and reinsurance. Prior to Crowe, his experience includes over a decade at Ernst & Young (EY) as a Senior Manager. He has also held senior positions at several other firms, including EVP at Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), VP at Gallagher Re, and Senior Manager at Deloitte Bermuda. Ferrara’s career also includes lead actuarial roles at carriers such as QBE and CNA Insurance.
