RIMS names new 2020 president and board

Laura Langone has been named the 2020 president for the officers of The Risk Management Society (RIMS) board of directors.

Langone, who joined the board of directors in 2016, has been a member of RIMS for 22 years, where she held several positions across the board, including serving as president for four years at RIMS Silicon Valley chapter.

Based in San Francisco, Langone is head of insurance operations at Airbnb. Prior to Airbnb, she was the head of insurance and risk management at PayPal and Juniper Networks.

Commenting on her new role, Langone states: “Today’s risk professional can’t afford to be complacent.”

She continued: “While the world around us evolves, especially with the introduction of new technologies, we must be ready to embrace different perspectives, different strategies and dare ourselves to be different.”

She added: “Stepping outside of our comfort zone can be intimidating, but those who are ready for the challenge will find greater opportunities to strengthen their risk programmes and elevate their careers. I am beyond excited to serve as RIMS 2020 president and to help ensure this global risk management community offers the tools, resources and support that allows us all to dream bigger, aim higher and be different.”

Ellen R. Dunkin will serve as senior vice president, while Patrick Sterling has been elected as treasurer and Jennifer Santiago as secretary.

New board members include Twane Duckworth and Tina Gardiner.

David Arick, Barry Dillard, Gary Nesbit, Soubhagya Parija, Kristen Peed and Robert Zhang are all incumbent board members.
