SCOR CEO Thierry Léger and Lloyd’s CEO John Neal have been appointed chair and vice chair of Insurance Europe’s Reinsurance Advisory Board (RAB), respectively.
Léger takes over from Gen Re CEO Charlie Shamieh, who has held the RAB chairmanship since June 2023. He has more than 25 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, having served in various senior and leadership positions at Oliver Wyman, Munich Re, and AIG.
Meanwhile, Neal will serve as vice chair of the RAB before taking over from Léger as chair in June 2025. He has been Lloyd’s CEO since 2018. Prior to that, he was group CEO at QBE Insurance.
Following his appointment, Léger says: “While the world is experiencing multiple transitions all at once in geopolitical, ecological, and digital domains, I'm looking forward to working with John and my fellow RAB members.
“Together, we will continue to promote an open and thriving reinsurance market in which risks can be diversified globally and to educate stakeholders on the power of reinsurance to protect societies in these challenging times.”
Neal states: "I am delighted to take up the position of vice chair of the RAB and to support the vital and innovative role reinsurers play in mitigating risks in an increasingly uncertain world.”
Insurance Europe’s board comments: “With the new European Parliament and Commission about to enter into office, the change of chairmanship comes at a pivotal time. In light of the significant challenges the industry is facing, ensuring its competitiveness must remain a priority for Europe.”
