Steve Matthews has retired as chief examiner and captive insurance coordinator for the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance and Office of the State Auditor. He has held the position since 2005.
As part of his role, Matthews has overseen and promoted the growth of the Montana captive industry during his 18-year tenure.
Matthews will be succeeded by Kari Leonard who has served at the Montana Office of the State Auditor since 2014. She most recently served as deputy examinations bureau chief.
Prior to that, she was senior auditor at the Montana Department of Revenue Corporate Income Tax Division for more than 14 years.
Steve Mack, accounting supervisor at the Montana State Auditor's Office, has also retired.
Montana licensed its first captive insurance company in 2002. The state now has more than 300 captive insurance entities.
Commenting on Matthews and Mack’s retirement, The Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, says: “For two decades, Steve Matthews and Steve Mack worked tirelessly serving the people of Montana and growing our state into the fifth-largest captive domicile in the US. We celebrate their time at our agency, the friendships we have built, and a well-deserved retirement.”
