Specialty insurance provider Sompo International (Sompo) has promoted Margaret Hyland to president of North America reinsurance.
Hyland replaces Steven Hanke, who has left Sompo after nearly 10 years.
Based in New York, Hyland will report to Christoper Doelan, Sompo’s global reinsurance CEO.
Hyland has more than 30 years of experience in the North American (re)insurance industry. She most recently served as Sompo’s executive vice president, head of North American professional liability reinsurance.
She has also held senior roles at other insurance companies including Allied World, CNA and Axis Capital.
Commenting on Hanke’s departure from Sompo, Donelan says: “He [Hanke] has been instrumental in helping us build the North America reinsurance portfolio to where we are today.”
Appraising Hyland’s promotion he adds: “Maggie [Hyland] has the reputation and expertise needed to take our business forward."
